The day was structured into two main events:

PROGRAM
4:00 pm – 6:00 pm: WALKING TOURS: The Tangible and Intangible Heritage of Downtown Cairo.

Vittoria Capresi and Barbara Pampe showed their best-of, introducing some buildings, their stories, and discussing about the tangible and intangible Heritage of Downtown. With a contribution by Omar Nagati (Cluster Cairo).

6:00 pm – 6:40 pm: ONLY FOR THE PARTICIPANTS TO THE TOURS
The two groups gathered at the Cinema Radio, to visit the building. Here Eng. Mohamed Hassan introduced the work of Al-Ismaelia for Real Estate Investments, and presented the newly restored Cinema.

7:00 pm – 9:00 pm: GOETHE INSTITUTE, Downtown: Book launch and Panel discussion: OPEN
Book Launch: Vittoria Capresi and Barbara Pampe will briefly present the book: Discovering Downtown Cairo. Architecture and Stories. Berlin: Jovis 2015.

Panel Discussion: Who is Downtown?
Nairy Avedissian (inhabitant), Hratch Mikaelian (inhabitant / “Readers Corner”), Maryse Helal (inhabitant) and Paul-Anton Krüger (Süddeutsche Zeitung) will tell us their stories explaining their relationships with Downtown. Mohamed el Shahed (Cairobserver) moderated the evening.

The event is a cooperation between baladilab, the Goethe Institut Kairo and Al-Ismaelia for Real Estate Investment.
