German Legacies in Cairo
The project “German Legacies in Cairo / Deutsche Bau+Kultur” aims at researching and making visible in the centre of Cairo the legacies related to the presence of the German community in the city. Which are the buildings built by German architects? Where are / were German enterprises or shops? Is there any story related to the German community living in the metropolis? The main focus is at mapping architecture built by German architects, as well as the more „intangible“ legacies, like descriptions in diaries, places
where people met, objects and design related to the German community.
The project is initiated by Vittoria Capresi and Barbara Pampe (baladilab) in cooperation with local and international specialists, and supported by the Cultural Preservation Programme of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
Deutsche Bau+Kultur
